This special tribute event honors Old Heart author Peter Ferry who taught English at Lake Forest High School for 28 years. The award winning film adapted from his novel will screen with codirector Kirk Wahamaki, producer/screenwriter Roger Rapoport and a costar from the cast present for a discussion about Ferry’s legacy. Actor and author Gary Houston, managing editor of the Chicago Quarterly Review, Ferry’s close friend and colleague will join this conversation. Alumni and faculty who worked with Ferry will also be on hand. Among his students were novelist Dave Eggers and actor Vince Vaughn.

This film focuses on how people cross cultural boundaries to find common ground. In addition to honoring black soldiers who have fought for our country back to the American liberation, Old Heart, is also a tribute to elder independence. Set in Detroit and the Netherlands, Old Heart was filmed in West Michigan and the Dutch community of Veldhoven. Twenty-three Michigan actors are featured along with Amsterdam actress Eva Doueiri in her screen debut.
Old Heart has won eight best feature honors at film festivals worldwide as well as two dozen other honors for acting, cinematography, editing, the score, costuming and screenplay.
